…Harnessing the natural beauty of Verey’s acclaimed gardens, the interiors of the Grade II listed house are now infused with elegantly quirky nods to the great outdoors. A huge twiggy chandelier presides over the spa stairwell, whilst specially created Louvred wood ‘beehive’ cabinets in the bedrooms house the gentle hum of DVD players and refrigerated mini bars…
…But not to be outdone by its spanking-new decor is the solid service, which was instantly highlighted upon arrival with the appearance of Michele Mella, the charming Italian manager. In the midst of orchestrating a 30th birthday picnic beneath the shade of a tree, this ‘host with the most’ was taking full enjoyment in his to-ing and fro-ing, ensuring that all was well in the world of Barnsley House. Whilst we indulged in freshly-made scones on the terrace overlooking the perfectly manicured formal gardens, Michele occassionally stopped for a friendly chat, even extending his hospitality to guests’ little ones, who were treated like mini VIPs. It is such omnipresent warmth that sets this place apart. In fact, I would go so far as to say that every hotel needs a Michele! …
